Sarah Simmons (b. 2000) is a lens-based artist from the North Carolina Sandhills. She is a recent Summa Cum Laude graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design where she received a BFA in Photography with a concentration in Fine Art.

Simmons often draws inspiration from the natural world and enjoys capturing nature’s patterns and textures. Through the manipulation of such imagery, multi-exposures, collages, mirroring, and advanced photographic techniques, she creates art about battling neuromuscular disease and the personal struggles that come with differing paths in life.

Simmons is currently furthering her education by pursuing an MFA with hopes of becoming a professor. Her desire to teach her craft at the college level grew out of her wonderful learning experiences at SCAD where she fell in love with the art of critique and the philosophy of aesthetics. Simmons also aspires to start a nonprofit organization for artists with physical disabilities and give back to the community that has embraced her, while helping others find their light and voices through art as she has found hers. As Simmons grows in her craft, she is no longer known as the young woman with a wheelchair, but the one who, battle after battle, stands strong in the work of her camera.
