Drawing inspiration from Alfred Stieglitz’s Equivalents, Reflections of Self reveals my current state of mind and my feelings battling invisible, yet physical health conditions.

Days often run together, and symptoms proceed — a never-ending cycle of inner growth and physical decay. At times, it can seem as though I am being pulled in all directions, a path and pattern, one might even describe as an overwhelming journey, with no end in sight.

Through water, the viewer is exposed to my need for balance and order amongst a world of chaos. Although at times dark and distorted, I remain positive in my representation, as good can always be found and formed during the hardest trials. Such feelings, too, are communicated through reflections, changes in weather, and forms of photographic manipulation, with imagery presented in black and white to allow the viewer to focus solely on the emotions which can be derived from the time of the shutter.
